Cambridge advances Colombian gold projects

Monday, 25th February 2008 (1774 views)

Exploration and mining firm Cambridge Mineral Resources (CMR) has agreed civil engineering deals for work that will move two of its gold mines in Colombia closer to production, the company has announced.

After securing development financing last month for three mines, work has got underway at two of the projects - Quintana and El Cinco.

At Quintana, access roads are being upgraded and detailed topographic surveys are being carried out on the tailings dam site and surrounding areas to find suitable material for dam construction.

Excavation of the site is expected to continue for the next few weeks, the company said, to make way for a processing plant and associated equipment.

Mine development, including the deepening of the main decline, is scheduled to restart on February 25th and continue for four months.

Meanwhile at the El Cinco mine, which is located within the Frontino gold belt, final planning is underway for the construction of a new access road that will allow machinery to be on site by the end of March.

Drilling is currently slated to start in approximately six weeks' time, with the Chingale and Colina Negra targeted for priority.

In addition to its Colombian operations, CMR also operates in Peru, Spain, Bulgaria and Serbia.
