New gold anomaly discovered at Akoko NorthThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Wednesday, 27th February 2008 (2535 views) Castle Minerals has announced that it has discovered a strong 3km long-surface gold anomaly at its Akoko North site in west Africa. The anomaly, which is a higher tenor (+250ppb gold) continuous and well-defined zone, was discovered as a result of soil sampling at the site. While the northern half of the zone contains many historic prospecting pits and shafts over a 600m x 75m area, the high tenor zone is interpreted to overlie weathered pyritic basalt and is situated immediately west of a basalt and sediment contact. Mike Ivey, Castle managing director, commented: "The Akoko North target is a very promising anomaly occurring just off a sediment/basalt contact and being associated with a large area of historic artisanal pitting." He added that it was 5km north of the company's recent Akoko gold discovery and had potential for further shallow gold mineralisation. Castle Minerals is a gold exploration company with seven projects located in Ghana in west Africa.
