Northern Lion drills gold in Portugal

Wednesday, 19th March 2008 (6245 views)

Northern Lion Gold has released the results for the first 500 metres of its planned 8,000-metre drilling programme under two licenses in southern Portugal.

Drilling is being carried out at the Salgadinho deposit on the Cercal property and at the Enfermarias deposit located on the Moura property, the company said.

Previous mineral estimates for Salgadinho carried out by the Portuguese government put its resources at 1.3 million tonnes grading 0.73 g/t gold, although this was not NI43-101 compliant.

Furthermore, gold sampling had only been conducted when chalcopyrite was visible, meaning potentially significant gold intervals remain untested, Northern Lion said.

Despite this, high-grade gold values of up to 16.2 g/t gold over 0.55 metres have been recorded at Salgadinho and the company's drilling will test more potential targets.

Results from its first two holes include grades of 1.91 g/t gold over 0.21 metres and 0.28 g/t gold over 5.68 metres. Drilling continues at the site.

Diamond drilling is also ongoing at the Enfermarias deposit, where in the 1980s, 11 of 13 holes completed by the government returned mineralisation.

Results from the four holes finished so far by North Lion include results that indicate multiple mineralised horizons at the site.

Northern Lion is a Canadian mineral exploration firm with projects in Portugal, Sweden and Finland.
