Drilling and surface mapping at the Monte Alban property in Mexico has returned samples of gold mineralisation, the company behind the project has said.

Aurea Mining said that the returns from phase one of its drilling programme, which is designed to test the extent of the San Jorge vein system, include gold values of up to 2.41 grams per tonne (g/t).

The programme started last year and is taking place below previous mine works and along the strike extensions of the veins. It is currently testing targets in the Chicharra area of the property around five kilometres north-west of exploration drilling completed in 2007.

So far, more than 20 veins have been mapped at Chicharra - and Aurea says that its assay results from early drilling have returned "highly significant" gold, silver and copper results.

In addition to the highlighted return, gold values recovered thus far have included 3.51 g/t gold over one metre and 0.22 g/t gold over 7.50 metres. Gold grades of 3.07 g/t have also been returned from the company's grab samples.

Monte Alban is an advanced stage exploration project located in the Taviche mining district. It covers 2,805 hectares in Oaxaca state, southern Mexico.
