Drilling hits high-grade gold in Peru

Thursday, 20th March 2008 (6209 views)

Infill drilling at the Invicta property in Peru has returned high-grade gold values 105 metres below the surface, the company developing the project has said.

Andean American Mining reported that an interval graded at 7.76 g/t gold over 3.34 metres have been returned from the drilling, along with lower values of 0.15 g/t gold over one metre and 0.10 g/t gold over 0.9 metres.

The results are part of an ongoing, 10,000-metre programme, which is being carried out alongside continued underground sampling and drilling that is intended to expand and update Invicta's estimated mineral resource.

Current estimates for the site put its gold resources at 4,739,500 tonnes grading 2.73 g/t gold.

Andean American president Andrew Gourlay said the results from the deeper drilling indicate that gold mineralisation at the site continues at depth and "appears to be widening".

"This confirms our belief that the Atenea structure is well mineralized and demonstrates the need to further define the potential for high gold grades from the structure through continued drilling and sampling," he added.

Andean American is an international mining and exploration firm with three properties in Peru - Invicta, Sinchao and Santa Rosa.
