Wednesday, 26th March 2008 (1970 views) B2Gold has begun drilling to test for gold and silver deposits in the Chukotka Region of north-east Russia.There are plans to drill a total of 8,500m in 2008 with 5,500m scheduled to be drilled in the Kupol West project and a further 3,000m in the Kupol East project. Prospecting will also take place in the Tokai area along a silica cap zone - this is known as the Prekup Prospect. Earlier trenches have shown the area has returned 36.4 g/t of gold along with 87.9 g/t of silver in a 7.1m area. Tom Garagan, senior vice-president for exploration, will be overseeing the project. Previous operations in the area indicate that the main Kupol vein extends for six kilometres north of the current mine boundary. According to the B2Gold website, they are a Vancouver based company that has built up "extensive" mining experience over the past 25 years. The company currently has interests in Colombia and Far East Russia.
