Bollywood gold 'inspires bridal jewellery'The news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Monday, 28th April 2008 (3029 views) "Exquisite" gold jewellery inspired by a successful Bollywood film has become a hit among brides-to-be in India, according to reports. The film, Jodhaa Akbar, tells the tale of the romance between a 16th century emperor and a princess. It features a wealth of ornate, specially-designed gold jewellery based on traditional pieces including necklaces, amulets and a gem-encrusted sword. Now, the Telegraph of Calcutta reports that the film's success has created a "craze" for the same type of jewellery among those looking to get married. Manish Prakash of Tanishq, the jewellery house that had a team of 200 craftsmen working for two years on creating pieces for the film, said parents of brides-to-be were increasingly asking for ornaments similar to those worn by the character of Rajput princess Jodhaa Bai, as played by Indian actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. In response to demand, Tanishq has created a collection of 22ct versions of some of the jewellery seen in film. The newspaper adds that the success of another Bollywood film, Paheli, has seen Rajasthani-style jewellery - especially a traditional tiara known as a mangtika - also come back in fashion. Jodhaa Akbar was released in India in February.
