New and old gold coins are among the items up for display and sale at the upcoming Northeast Alabama Coin Show.

They include issues of the $20 ($10) Saint Gauden edition of the Double Eagle gold coin and the new $50 American Eagle gold coin, the Gadsden Times reports.

The annual show, which is sponsored by the Gadsden-Rainbow City Coin Club, will be held at the Elliot Community Centre in Alabama City. Dealers and numismatists from across the American south-east are expected to attend the event, with some set to travel from as far as Tennessee, Mississippi, Georgia and Florida.

Among the rare coins set to go on display at the event are the US cents minted between 1793 and 1857, a collection of three-cent pieces produced between 1851 and 1889, and a 1921 Alabama commemorative half-dollar.

In addition to the coins on display and for sale, the show is also set to host the launch of the newest addition to the US Mint's State Quarters Collection, the New Mexico quarter, the site says.

The State Quarters programme was launched by the mint to commemorate each of the USA's 50 states. To date, coins for Arizona, Oklahoma, Alaska and Hawaii have been issued.
