High Desert completes gold drilling in Mexico

Wednesday, 21st May 2008 (577 views)

High Desert Gold has completed the first phase of its diamond drilling programme at the Canasta Dorada project in Mexico, the company has announced.

A total of 33 drill holes were completed for the campaign, with work extending the gold mineralisation in the area known as the Big Pit.

Highlights of the work included gold grades of 1.08 g/t gold over 25.5 metres, 1.78 g/t gold over nine metres and 1.20 g/t gold over 8.5 metres.

The company said the results indicate that the Big Pit has two of the geological components needed to host near-surface gold mineralisation.

High Desert Gold president Ralph Fitch said the exploration work had also identified structural conditions three kilometres to the west of its current drilling that open up a "very large" area of multiple gold targets.

The Canasta Dorada property covers 448 square kilometres in the north-western area of Sonora state, Mexico. The locality hosts a number of gold mines, including Picacho, Padre-Madre and the five million-ounce Mesquite mine.
