Edible gold dish blooms for Chelsea Flower Show

Wednesday, 21st May 2008 (598 views)

Edible gold leaf and marigolds feature in a dish being served by a London restaurant to coincide with the Royal Horticultural Society's (RHS) Chelsea Flower Show, it has been reported.

The tomato shorba - a type of stew that originated in Turkey - features on a menu that includes other flower-themed delicacies, such as vodka infused with rose petals and banana flower galouti, the Telegraph says.

The menu, part of the offering at the Cinnamon Club in south-west London, is among the newspaper's recommendations for eating out while attending the flower show, which takes place at the Royal Hospital in Chelsea.

It says a number of cafes and restaurants have "entered into the floral spirit" for the event, transforming the once "culinary desert" around the Royal Hospital into a diner's paradise of exotic dishes.

Other establishments recommended by the publication include Peter Jones, which "leads the way" in flower-themed dishes, as well as the renovated Royal Court bar in Sloane Square.

Around 600 exhibitors are involved in this year's RHS Chelsea Flower Show, with international entries from countries including Sweden, Sri Lanka, Barbados, Holland, Australia and South Africa.
