Exploration drilling at the Central Manitoba gold property in Canada has detected a new zone of gold mineralisation, the company conducting the work has said.

Bison Gold Exploration confirmed that it has completed 3,242 metres of drilling at the site to follow up on smaller campaigns carried out in 2006 and 2007.

The explorer confirmed that drilling had intersected gold valued at 6.0 g/t over 2.98 metres with a true width of 2.41 metres. This intercept included a section valued at 10.4 g/t gold over 1.55 metres with a true with of 1.26 metres.

Bison said it has designated this new area of mineralisation the Tene West vein, as it appears to be a strike extension of existing structures at the Tene mine.

Other results from the drilling include gold values of 1.1 g/t gold over a width of 0.62 metres, which was returned from a hole completed between the existing Tene and Hope veins.

Commenting on the results, Bison Gold chief executive Lucas Ewart said: "We are well financed to explore our properties and to pursue other opportunities as they arise."

Central Manitoba is located with the Bissett-Rice Lake gold belt. The mine produced 160,000 ounces of gold between 1927 and 1937, although during this period it was rarely explored at depths of more than 200 metres.
