A new watch by luxury Swiss watchmaker Baume & Mercier has been launched in the Middle East.

The white Riviera XXL High Jewellery timepiece, described as "ultra feminine" by the makers, is made of gold and features a double twelve-sided bezel, four gem-set screws and has white gold for its black version, with sapphire crystal for its pink and white variations.

The white gold case is set with 400 diamonds of 9.5 carats.

Al Bawaba reports that it is expected to be very popular among Arab customers and expatriates.

Brothers Louis Victor and Pierre-Joseph-Celestin Baume founded a house in their name in 1830.

Their slogan was: "Accept only perfection, only manufacture watches of the highest quality."

Their family initially settled in the village of Les Bois in the Swiss Jura Mountains in 1542, carrying out watch manufacturing work.

It became Baume & Mercier in Geneva in 1920 after William Baume, grandson of the founder, and Paul Mercier joined together.
