Phelps 'in with a change to win more gold'

Friday, 29th August 2008 (841 views)

Olympic gold medallist Michael Phelps has been invited to try his hand at poker by Betfair Poker, reports PokerListings.com.

The swimmer won eight golds at the Beijing Olympic Games and now the poker company is offering to bring him to London for the World Series of Poker Europe (WSOP).

At the event Phelps could be in with a chance to win yet more gold - a WSOP gold bracelet.

Phelps will have to win the entire event in order to get his hands on the gold bracelet, along with the £1 million jackpot.

"Phelps will be free to wear his famous LZR swim suit at the table, although organizers fear it may not give him the same competitive edge outside of the pool," said Betfair Poker.

The invitation came after media reports suggested Phelps was a fan of the card game.

However, Phelps might be a little busy at the moment following his return to the US and the start of a tour to celebrate his numerous victories in the pool, reports newsday.com.
