Keegan Resources has announced that it hopes to "rapidly advance exploration" at its Esaase gold project in Ghana.

It comes after the company revealed additional results from drilling of up to 900 metres south of the existing resource.

Highlights from the programme include 2.5 g/t Au across 26 metres, 4.2 g/t Au across 23 metres and 1.49 g/t across 26 metres.

President Dan McCoy commented: "We are continuing to make significant additions to the Esaase deposit … which is key to the successful development of an efficient, modern open pit gold mine."

He added that the results complement analysis from the nearby Jeni programme and that they illustrated the excellent potential for the area to become an important gold producer for the African nation.

Fellow mining firm PMI Gold is making progress in advancing its Kubi gold project in Ghana towards the production stage.

Peter Hooper was recently appointed as the company's new president and chief executive in office.
