Tuesday, 28th October 2008 (1031 views) Alexis Minerals has announced that it has commenced commercial production at the Lac Herbin gold mine, Val d'Or, Quebec.The company's first gold mine, production started at Lac Herbin on October 1st 2008 and full production is scheduled to begin this quarter, meeting previous guidance of 17,000 ounces of gold production for 2008 and 36,000 ounces for 2009. Canadian mining firm Alexis has reported that custom million campaigns at the Lac Herbin mine have yielded 10,525 ounces of gold, while a second gold milling campaign between September 15th and October 10th produced 5,860 ounces of gold from 26,769 dry tonnes of ore. An official opening ceremony at Lac Herbin gold mine earlier this month was attended by more than 200 people, including Alexis employees, government representatives, members of the press and key suppliers. Toronto-based Alexis has developed the main access ramp at the Lac Herbin site, implemented a comprehensive safety management programme and almost completed a new site office, with plans now in place to run two additional custom milling campaigns in 2008. A junior Canadian Mining company, Alexis owns the Aurbel gold mill, the Lac Herbin gold deposit, which has a projected annual run rate of 36,000 ounces of gold and a portfolio of properties covering 1,005 sq km of the prospective Val d'Or and Rouyn-Noranda Mining Camps in Quebec.
