Purchasing gold coins is becoming increasingly popular in the wake of the global credit crunch and dealers in west Michigan are reporting a boom in sales.

According to the Grand Rapids Press, gold dealers in the area have seen a sharp rise in calls about buying and selling precious metals.

Dan Diemer, of Diemer's Coins in Plainfield Township, told the newspaper that he was receiving around ten calls per week about gold coins, with American Eagle and Chinese Panda coins proving most popular.

Chris Miner, owner of Holland Coin & Jewelry in Holland Township, added that "people are buying any kind of gold coins we have".

India Post recently launched a new gold coin pilot scheme through its post office network that is being trialled in over 100 outlets across the states of Delhi, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Punjab and is proving popular with customers, particularly over the Indian festival period.
