Thursday, 30th October 2008 (1910 views) Members of Russia's national hockey squad are to be presented with valuable gold rings.Players and coaches from the world championship winning team will receive unique gold rings studded with diamonds, broadcaster Mayak reports. According to Kommersant.com, Russian hockey legend Vladislav Tretyak and the country's sports minister Vitaly Mutko will also receive the rings. The rings have been created to mark the first time that a Russian squad has been crowned hockey world champions in 15 years. Members of the Boston Celtics basketball team have been awarded their championship rings, which are crafted in 14-c white gold and worth an estimated $30,000 (£18,285) each. Championship rings and commemorative gold jewellery is becoming increasingly popular among sports stars and the Celtics ornate rings are evidence of the trend for more elaborate designs, with each featuring a gem-set shamrock, team mantra and the name and number of each player.
