Tuesday, 25th November 2008 (1926 views) A historic collection of Indian coins is being put up for sale in Britain on December 11th this year.The comprehensive hoard includes 34 gold coins and covers the story of India, from its ancient past, its time as part of the British Empire to its independence, News-Antique.com reports. Specialist auctioneers Morton & Eden have placed the entire collection of 249 coins as a single lot in a two-day sale in London with a guide price of £20,000. Originally owned by a Swiss businessman who worked in India, the coin collection dates from the fifth century BC to the 20th century and includes a rare quarter stater of the Kushan ruler Kanishka I (AD 100-126) and Mughal gold mohurs of the 16th-17th centuries. A hoard of 41 Celtic coins found by a metal detector enthusiast in a field in Kent sold at Morton & Eden auction house earlier this year for over £35,000.
