Azumah Resources has revealed that drilling has commenced at its Wa-Lawra gold project in west Africa.

A reverse circulation programme is being conducted at the wholly-owned gold property in north-west Ghana.

Six holes are being drilled to test for near-surface extensions to the north and south of the Bepkong gold resource, estimated at 212,000 ounces.

A further two drill holes of 100m each are planned by Azumah Resources to investigate a new gold target 400m to the west of the 516,000 ounce Kunche resource.

Based in Australia, Azumah Resources is focused on the development of the Wa-Lawra gold project, which has an estimated resource of 734,300 ounces of gold and has a pipeline of planned drill targets.

In its December 2008 quarterly operations report, the company said that it had obtained "excellent recoveries exceeding 95 per cent from test work on samples of Bepkong oxide and primary (sulphide) mineralisation".
