Thursday, 23rd April 2009 (1395 views) A number of gold watches have been sold as part of a horological auction held by Patrizzi and Co in Geneva this month.The sale attracted bids totalling more than CH7.85 million (£4.65 million) and highlights of the auction included an 18-c gold minute-repeating, self-winding wristwatch by Patek Phillippe. Sold for $349,787, the gold timepiece attracted the highest winning bid of the sale and features a perpetual calendar and moon phases. An 18-c gold watch, originally sold to Prince Ferdinand in 1812, went for CH42,000, while a gold Patek Philippe & Cie World Time gentleman's dress watch with cloisonne enamel map of North America had a winning bid of CH92,000. The auction was held on April 19th 2009 at the Hotel Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Geneva and 80 per cent of the 283 lots were sold. In related news, gold watches will form part of a new display entitled Time and the Jeweler's Art at the Forbes Galleries in New York this month.
