Thursday, 30th April 2009 (1357 views) Christie's has held a sale of golden jewellery from the estate of Umm Kulthum in Dubai.The auction house offered a small group of Arab singer Umm Kulthum's personal jewellery during a sale at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel in Dubai Born in 1904 and known as the 'shining star of the Middle East', Umm Kulthum was one of the most famous Arab singers of the 20th century. The Christie's Dubai jewellery and watch sale on April 28th was sponsored by Credit Suisse and included luxury timepieces by Patek Philippe, Breguet, Cartier and Rolex. David Warren, Christie's director of jewellery for the Middle East, commented: "We are delighted to have been entrusted with this rare group of jewels from Umm Kulthum and, as always in our Dubai sales, we have sought to offer some exquisite pieces of jewellery and fine watches." In related news, a number of gold watches were sold as part of a CH7.85 million (£4.65 million) horological auction held by Patrizzi and Co in Geneva this month, including an 18-c gold timepiece by Patek Phillippe.
