Tuesday, 26th May 2009 (806 views) More than 100 permanent jobs are to be created as a result of approval for a new gold mine in western Australia.Westonia is to be the location for Catalpa Resources' Edna May project, after environmental approval was granted by the government. According to the company, 180 vacancies will need to be filled during construction, while more than 110 full-time positions will be created once the mine is up and running. Commenting on the development, managing director Bruce McFadzean said he is "delighted" the Edna May operation is moving forward. "Our confidence in this project was well-placed and we remain confident that the project's sound economics will provide a strong platform to fund Catalpa's growth," he remarked. Last week Companies and Markets noted that interest from Chinese companies is providing a boost to the Australian gold mining sector, with the country now the third-largest producer of the precious metal.
