Tuesday, 26th May 2009 (828 views) Metal detector users have uncovered a range of gold items in the Scottish area of Moray, it has emerged.According to the Press and Journal, a field at Clarkly Hill in Burghead has been the site of a number of discoveries. These include a pair of gold rings, thought to date from the fifth and 12th centuries, as well as a gold earring that is believed to be Roman. And gold rings thought to be from the Bronze Age have also been uncovered, with the news source noting that archaeologists are not yet clear as to what their original purpose was. "Some suspect they were used as body jewellery or hair decorations, or as a status symbol which was used to barter for other items," it stated. The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York is to display a range of gold items from ancient Afghanistan, with an exhibition beginning next month and running until September.
