A share of the proceeds from a new range of jewellery is to be donated to a women's charity.

Neunique announced that one-fifth of the money from its Samsara pieces, which include a number of gold items, will be given to Bottomless Closet.

The New York-based organisation tries to help disadvantaged women gain financial independence by providing them with clothes and professional development workshops.

Sophie Blake, founder of Neunique, explained that her designs have been aimed at increasing awareness of social problems that many women face.

She added that she chose Bottomless Closet to benefit because "it is a charity that speaks to our current economic situation".

Meanwhile, items of gold jewellery that have been worn by Oscar-winning actresses - including Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron - are going on sale in Los Angeles.

The Stars For A Cause auction is being hosted by Bonhams & Butterfields today (May 28th).
