People "astounded" by value of gold jewelleryThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Tuesday, 28th July 2009 (854 views) Many people in Ireland who enquire about selling their unwanted or broken gold jewellery are surprised at how much their items can be worth, according to a gold valuing agent. The Irish Independent wrote that gold parties are becoming an increasingly popular trend on this side of the Atlantic, following an enthusiastic uptake of similar parties in America during the last year. Party hosts invite their friends over for drinks and snacks and they can also bring their old jewellery - including mismatched earrings and broken items - to be valued by an agent. Those who are willing to sell on the night can pocket the cash. Laura Walsh of goldparty.ie, which runs such events, said business is booming since the company launched a few weeks ago and added people are pleasantly surprised to learn the value of their possessions. "Most people are astounded about what these scraps are worth," she told the newspaper. Earlier this month, ABC 4 News reported that many Americans who bring their heirloom jewellery for valuation are surprised to learn that their treasures have monetary, as well as sentimental, value.
