Gold 'remains a popular choice' for bridal jewelleryThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Tuesday, 28th July 2009 (920 views) In spite of the recession, many brides are still choosing to wear gold jewellery as they celebrate their special day, the editorial director of Wedding Ideas magazine has observed.Rachel Southwood said that when it comes to wedding rings, modern couples often choose to purchase a package which lets the bride match her wedding band to her engagement ring. "Probably 40 or even 50 per cent of brides ... have a matching set," she said. "Before, they might have something spectacular laid into their engagement ring and then a plainer band, [but] now we are finding that the two complement each other much more," she explained. And gold is a popular option for many, as bridal trends are moving away from lighter metals, she added. The National Cost of a Wedding survey for 2008, which was published by You & Your Wedding magazine, indicated that the bride's engagement ring is the third-most expensive wedding purchase, after the reception and the honeymoon. In the UK, the average groom spends £1,412 on his proposal.
