A number of Indian milk producers have been rewarded for their efforts with gold items.

According to the Times of India, Mantu Singh and Arun Singh were awarded a gold chain and a gold ring respectively for their work on the Patna Dairy Project.

The presentation was organised by the Datiyana Milk Producers' Cooperative Committee in Bikram and also saw various other prizes, including milk producing equipment and clothing, given to farmers.

Managed by the National Dairy Development Board, the Patna Dairy Project is a dairy plant serving the Patna region.

Gold items are frequently used by organisations and governments as employee bonuses in India, where the precious metal is particularly sought-after.

In Bengal, the notion of using gold as an incentive was recently taken a step further when more than 250 new mothers were offered gold rings as rewards for giving their newborn children traditional Tamil names, the Express news service reported.
