Bollywood actor Puneet Rajkumar attracted thousands of fans yesterday (July 30th) when he opened a new gold jewellery store in Mysore, India.

The new Malabar Gold outlet is the company's 29th and sells a wide range of hallmarked gold jewellery, including rings and necklaces.

At a press conference after the opening, Rajkumar was asked why he chose to become a brand ambassador for Malabar Gold, according to the Star of Mysore.

"Gold ornaments serve as security in times of distress. They represent the family's savings. There is nothing wrong in becoming an ambassador for it," he said in reply.

The opening came almost a week after Malabar Gold launched two new gold jewellery collections, both crafted from 22-c gold.

Previous brand ambassadors for the company have included actor Mohan Lal, tennis player Sania Mirza and actress Hema Malini.

Earlier this week, Indian jeweller Gitanjali announced that Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor had become the latest star to endorse its gold products.
