Gold bridal jewellery is still proving popular despite the recession affecting sales of other metal pieces.

This is according to experts speaking to National Jeweler, who noted that people are still planning weddings in spite of the economic downturn.

Peter Ahee, president of Edmund T Ahee Jewelers, said: "[The] bridal [sector] is healthy - it hasn't hit the downward trend yet."

Shaesby Scott, a designer who recently launched a range of couture 18-c gold men and women's wedding rings in an attempt to break into the bridal market, explained that many consumers are increasingly looking for more on-trend bridal pieces.

He added: "It's something my customers have been requesting for some time and was expedited by the current state of things."

According to recent comments from Rachel Southwood of Wedding Ideas magazine, couples are increasingly opting for jewellery packages that allow them to purchase an engagement ring together with matching wedding bands.
