High-end bridal jewellery such as gold wedding and engagement rings is still popular among buyers in spite of the recession.

This is according to jewellers speaking to Real Business, who said that couples are still viewing engagement and wedding rings as an important purchase despite the financial crisis's impact on their personal finances.

Jason Hirsh of Hirsh Jewellers stated that its bridal product sales had seen a considerable increase compared with sales for last year.

Gary Williams, sales direcctor for B&N Rings, added: "More couples are prioritising their wedding ring spend. They see their rings as a symbol; they mark the day and are something couples will have with them every day afterwards."

The British Jewellers' Association recently predicted that gold will continue to lead the jewellery market during and after the recession due to its strong value and is unlikely to be displaced by any other metal in the future.
