Thursday, 24th September 2009 (3319 views) Retailers of gold and other jewellery have expressed optimism for this year's Hong Kong Jewellery and Gem Fair. The dual-venue event, which began on Monday (September 21st) and will run until Sunday, is taking place at the AsiaWorld-Expo and the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre. According to Channel NewsAsia, a number of retailers are expressing positive sentiments about sales of gold and other luxury jewellery at the fair in spite of the economic downturn and its effect on consumer spending. "I feel that [consumers] buy less, but they buy bigger pieces than what we're expecting and more quality pieces," commented Edwin Wong, sales manager at Trendy Group International. Other retailers have expressed satisfaction with attendance at the Hong Kong Jewellery and Gem Fair, which covers an area that is 20 per cent bigger than last year's event. The AsiaWorld-Expo venue is currently hosting exhibitors showcasing raw materials, while the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre is home to those displaying finished jewellery. More than 3,000 exhibitors are present at the fair.
