Monday, 16th November 2009 (2594 views) Kyrgyzstan's ministry of natural resources is set to potentially issue the licence for the second biggest gold mine in the country to be developed, according to news agency 24.kg.Canadian firm Centerra is likely to receive the licence to develop the mine at Taldy-Bulak Levoberejny in the north of Kyrgyzstan, thanks to an initiative from the Kyrgyzstan Development Fund. Reserves at the mine total 64.4 tonnes of gold in the C1/C2 category with an average content of 7.23g/t. It is thought that the application will be considered by the ministry of natural resources shortly, but at present the licence for the site belongs to the Altyn-Ken mining company. The site lies in the Chui oblast in the north of Kyrgyzstan and is situated 120km east of the city of Bishkek. Kyrgyzstan's largest gold mine is the Kumtor mine, which is also owned by Canadian Centerra. This is the largest gold mine operated in central Asia by a western company. In 2008, gold production at the mine exceeded 556,000 ounces.
